The works of Yair Emanuel have been influenced by his childhood experiences as well as his
education at Israel's finest Art and Design school. Yair Emanuel was born in Kibbutz Shalavim, an
Orthodox kibbutz located not far from the city of Mo'diin. His family soon thereafter moved to
Jerusalem where he spent his formative years. Emanuel was accepted to the prestigious Bezalel
academy of Art and Design where he developed a more pluralistic approach to the Jewish religion,
further impacting the approach to his art.The inspiration of Jerusalem, where Emanuel's currently
lives and operates his studio, can be seen throughout his works. Many of his pieces have distinctive
Jerusalem motifs, while others, display the mix of old and new, just as Jerusalem is a blend of ancient
and modern.
Vivid and harmonious colors characterize Yair Emanuel's hand-painted ritual articles. Each wooden
article is hand-painted with brush using acrylic colors and than lacquered. It can be used for eating and
drinking, and can be washed in water since it is coated with several layers of lacquer.
